Because GW players would rather grind the same old content, then buy/pay for a new game.

Btw, rep grinds in WoW are exaggerated and things of the past. They've moved away from that since then. You get rep much faster, and you don't need rep for anything practically.

A lot of the people who still play GW and scream 'ohnoes grind!!' at another game are mostly those who can't afford to pay and just rationalize that whatever they can't get must be bad.

Are pre-orders available in retail stores, or just at those selected websites?

Pre-ordered the Collectors' Edition.

Can't wait for this game; while I do wait I'm wandering around Gw hurting people's feelings.

Anyone can do this, it doesnt take long to learn how to build and upgrade computers, or use Ebay to sell your old components.
First, if I'm going to upgrade it's going to be a very large and substansial upgrade. Right now, AoC would run OK, but if I upgraded I'd want it to run awesome, not just decent. I'll wait a while before I have enough saved up and when the current "apex of graphics and performance" goes down. I want to hit that curve at just the right spot.

Regarding selling my stuff on eBay, no. I've had rather bad experience with dealing to other sellers, plus I just give/sell all the stuff to my older brother or second job.

Don't get me wrong, I loved TES series, all the way from Daggerfall. Oblivion was an awesome game, but I don't think it raised a whole lot of "standards" in an RPG sense. In fact, it probably lowers them. One needs only to go to the official forums to see all the mass of discontent from very hardcore Elder Scrolls fans.

And damn, ZD's back : (

Oblivion was like a kick in the stomach from Bethesda, to me. I used to love The Elder Scrolls series.

Guess the NDA is no longer relevant. AoC has awesome potential, but it is not ready to go public with the amount of bugs. Funcom should have waited 6 months, released in the fall. But if you decide to buy now expect to be upgrading your computer if it's just mid range. Also expect to be "paying to play" a Beta for 6 months or more.

Many things are incredible in AoC early game: Graphics, Story, voice acting, writing, quests, Combat. Combat system is pretty amazing--player skill required. Combat animations are best I've ever seen!!

Downside. Load screens take forever, and are everywhere. This is horrible for a new MMO. There needs to be some serious optimization. A game that takes several minutes to load a new area will likely fail in today's climate.

Instancing is the same as Anarchy Online, Funcom being the grand daddy of instancing, there should have been some dramatic advancements. Nothing but more of the same here. Where load screens are only a few secs in GW with '-image', AoC is measured in minutes.

Persistent World is way overrated, Not only do populated areas lag horribly, but it just feels too Theme Parky, line up for the next ride, wait around for Spawns to pop, or the 12 yr old to tire of farming you quest mob. . .

All this being said, I'll be buying AoC, but like the premature release of Anarchy Online, I'll be waiting a good long while, at least til after the Pay to Beta period is over. And not until I've spent 1k for new computer parts.

I still have high hopes for AoC, I'm just going to have to wait a year or so.

Eh, all the stuff listed is pretty much guaranteed with these vaunted 'next-gen' games (WTB old-school isometric games like Diablo 2 and Nox, plzkthxbai). So I'm not particularly worried at that

Try the closed beta patch they pushed today(after the 24hour downtime) if you haven't. Solves most of the performance problems.

You seriously have issues with just trying to counter every reason that there is to play AoC, suggestions that I made just to make upgrading to play the game possible and an easier / cheaper process, and you compromise yourself greatly, firstly by saying that you dont want to spend a large chunk of your money on an upgrade, and then by saying that thats the only thing that you would do.

I just dont understand your need to find every possible reason, argument, and counter against being able to run AoC. It is your problem if you either dont have, or dont want to upgrade to a PC to play modern games, not mine or all the people that have a good PC and are going to enjoy the game. Plenty of people sell their parts on ebay to fund for upgrades, and I dont know what bad experiences you can have as a seller - Put a price on your item, request payment by paypal only, and request immediate payment. If someone wants to buy your item, they have to pay immediately, you get your money, then you post it.

The Ebay suggestion was meant as advice on how to make upgrades more affordable because you appeared have such a big problem with upgrading to a PC capable of playing games today. It works for plenty of gamers and keeps their upgrades cheap and affordable.

But whatever, keep on finding some more arguments to hate the game and refuse to play it for whatever reasons you have, doesnt change the fact that plenty of people are looking forward to playing it and leaving whichever MMO they currently play.

I got my preorder code from game today (placed a pre order there and cancelled after getting my code XD) and the client for the early access will be available to download from tomorrow and the game will start on the 17th of may.

See whoever else is going to be playing there
